How does Boxelder bill for wastewater discharges?

Boxelder obtains potable water consumption readings from its customer's potable water provider. Sewer service bills are prepared on the first business day of each month for service through the end of the previous month. When water meter readings apply, the water consumption total from the water meter reading taken during the previous month is used to calculate the sewer service charges for the current billing.

An example: For the service period December 1 through December 31, Boxelder uses the water consumption total from water meter readings ending in mid-December (for most customers between the 10th and the 15th of the month).

Residential users are billed for actual consumption for the three-month period of December, January and February. The average water consumption during these three months is called the Average Winter Consumption (AWC). This AWC is the basis for the Summer Schedule rate charge that is implemented each year for the nine-month period of March through November. The Summer Schedule prevents charging residential customers for water consumption that does not enter the sewer lines.

Non-residential (commercial, industrial) users are billed for actual consuption year round. Non-residential users may request one irrigation meter per non-residential building for the measurement of the non-wastewater flows for the nine-month period of March through November. The wastewater billing is adjusted during this period for the metered non-wastewater flows. Installation of the sub-meter is at the customer's expense.

When is my payment due?

Sewer service bills are prepared on the first business day of each month and due by the last day of the same month.

To avoid late charges, the District must receive payments on or prior to the last day of the same month.

  • Unpaid balances are assessed a $2 late charge on the next billing date.

  • Unpaid balances are assessed a $17 late charge on the second subsequent bill date.

  • Service is terminated on the third subsequent bill date. A $20 lien fee and a $350 disconnect/reconnect fee are assessed. A $250 abatement of the termination/reconnection fee will occur if the property has an installed Elder Valve.
